Coppa Nera (Cup Jacks)
These jacks are inspired by vintage Italian cup jacks. They have a slim oval/tear dropped shaped bladed. I saw Lino use a pair of these made by Dino at Pilchuck back in the day and they look absolutely killer. I’ve always been into this style of jack since finding out the Chris Taylor advises students get the Jim Moore version for their first tool. It took me a while to use them myself but once I did, it was clear to me why this style is so popular. This is the sort of Dino version - beefier than the Carlo’s and less rigid than Jim’s. These have their own sort of vibe. These are a bright and light feeling tool that exact laser precision with a slim and lengthy 8” oval blade.
blades about 8” / handles about 4.5” / strap about 3.5” H x a little over 1.5” W
I am presently using a black patina on the jacks. I then coat the patina in a wax and coconut oil mixture that behaves somewhat like a paste wax. This looks great and has a wonderfully smooth feel in the hand. It also acts as a nice pre-seasoning that allows new wax to stick better but also it seems that the jacks don’t need much upon first use and that they sort of line themselves up.
These high quality and highly functional tools are hand made one at a time per order in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Each tool shows clean and visible signs of being made by hand and hammer. Each is a unique object.
Tools are made per order and are selling fast, please allow some lead time for tools to be made and shipped.
